AI in your DAM: what would you trust it to do solo?

In a customer workshop this week, someone asked: “Would you let AI publish a campaign asset on its own?”

We all laughed—then paused.

Because the truth is, AI is getting seriously good. From auto-tagging and smart cropping to tone matching and content suggestions, it’s making our workflows faster, smarter, and more scalable.

Personally, I love the idea of AI doing the heavy lifting—clearing the runway so we can focus on strategy and creativity. But when it comes to hitting “publish” with zero human eyes? That still feels like a stretch for most of us.

That said… the gap is closing. And fast.

What DAM or content tasks would you feel comfortable handing off to AI today? And what’s still firmly in the “not yet” zone for you?

Let’s talk about where the line is now—and where it might move next.

Let’s discuss where we currently draw the line and where it might shift in the future. If you had asked me this last year, I would have said that AI can undoubtedly handle the heavy lifting of business-as-usual workflows. However, at this point, I believe it is still risky to rely on AI systems to assess situations, make choices, evaluate risks, and then release those outputs into the world without some level of Human intervention. I don’t think any AI system is ready for that responsibility yet.

As it stands today, we currently do not have independently functioning AI; however, we do have some basic machine learning capabilities that help automate workflows between various systems and solutions. I'm now focused on understanding what works and what doesn’t and how we can deploy AI effectively. I want to see where it can save time and costs in real terms. Additionally, I’d like to know how far we are from being able to simply press "ENTER," mix a drink, sit back, and trust the system completely. Yes, please.

This was written with the assistance of Ai...

Here’s what I’d love to see AI do:

  • Auto generated visual representation of the overall taxonomy
  • More advanced tagging
  • Context specific Titles and Descriptions driven by AI
  • More advanced auto derivatives that understand what file types and sizes would be optimal for users
  • Prompt based edits to the taxonomy
  • Chatbot to help users find what they need
  • AI Insights
